Sometimes you don’t need to say anything other than she is woman hear her roar……
I met Mindy through her sweet hubby who is a fellow photographer. We met at a photographers meet and greet and my first impressions was she is just perfect for her partner Dave. They are both comedians, constantly smiling and making people laugh. They are a pleasure to be around. My first session with them was a few years back and I captured some images for their engagement. Fast forward to our most recent session, this time Mindy got the royal treatment.. this session was all about her. We spend the session laughing and joking and having a ball. Dave was my assistant that day as well setting up some behind the scene shots. It was an epic day. I look forward to shooting her every year of her life.. she is simply beautiful.
Definition of ‘glamour’
1: a magic spell
2: an exciting and often illusory and romantic attractiveness ‘the glamour of Hollywood’
What more can one say about the experience?
Women are amazing, especially when they are pregnant. It is such a special time, of miracles, and beauty. I am always awed by a woman's beauty at any stage of her pregnancy and I am thrilled when I get to do creative maternity sessions. A creative session could include fancy maternity dresses with billowing or flowing fabrics, nudes or semi nudes in nature to capture that connection to mother earth, studio sessions with a more magazine style (I personally loved Demi Moore’s cover). If you are expecting I urge you to book a session and capture this time... it is truly magical.
It’s that time of year, the season’s are changing the leaves are falling and it’s getting dark earlier. I used to live in Ontario where we had a glorious burst of color around end of September into October where everything turned a bright red and yellow. Mornings were amazing with the little bit of mist on the leaves and it made the landscape look like a painting some days and other days it was so magical you swore you saw a unicorn. Out here on the west coast we don’t get quite that punch of color in part it’s cause we have more evergreens here, I don’t let that stop me from creating fall feeling in my work.
I hope you enjoy this fall weather and have a fun Halloween - oh and don’t forget to change you clocks this weekend!.
Back in October I posted to FB to nominate someone who was affected by Cancer for the opportunity to win a session. I was overwhelmed with the number of entrants.. It is humbling to know how many people are affected by Cancer and live with the diagnosis daily.
One of those inspiring winners was Karen Lyn, who's daughter entered her for the session. Karen lives in Ontario, but her daughter is out here on the west coast in Victoria so we planned to spend a day shooting the next time she was in town. Karen and I connected right away and talked about the last time she had portraits done, her husband immediately pulled out an image of her last glamour portrait.. wow, that was over 20 years ago! Amazing how time flies! (by the way she is just as stunning now as then) We chatted about her diagnosis, her healing journey, the last time she had a family portrait done, family vacations, cruising and how much work it was to be a glamour girl in front of my lens ;)
Here is a little memory of their day.
inspired by Sue Bryce
In 2013 I came across a portrait photographer from down under named Sue Bryce. At that time she had a mission to bring back glamour portraiture, not the 80s style that I still have haunting nightmares about but a more updated version. A Vogue magazine inspired glamour, traditional chic. Her desire has always been…'to help women to love and value themselves, to recognize their own beauty and to have amazing photographs of themselves.' Over the last few years her message has been refined and reinforced with the passage of time.
Photographers around the globe are echoing Sue's words encouraging everyone (but especially women) to exist in photographs.
'Exist in photographs for yourself. Exist in photographs for your children.'
I am one of those portrait photographers, so I ask you, when did you last have your photograph taken? #EXISTINPHOTOS now.
